Detecting Knee Osteoarthritis in its Earliest Stage

90% of patients above 40 years old complaining of knee pain are likely to have osteoarthritis – even with normal x-ray results. Conducting knee exam tests especially in the early stage can greatly help with the management and prognosis of osteoarthritis of the knee.

With new protocols in the examinations and diagnosis of osteoarthritis, detection can be achieved years earlier compared to what was practiced a decade ago.

Although radiographic (x-ray) studies remain to be the standard for diagnosing osteoarthritis, there are certain subtleties (signs of degradation and presence of osteophytes) that can be missed by the human eye.
